South Africans living abroad may need to resolve administrative matters at home, verify documents or establish the status of applications. Similar requirements arise when foreign employers and institutions need to verify South African records presented to them.
Distance can complicate these processes. Travelling to South Africa to resolve a matter can be costly, and being physically present does not guarantee a resolution. Requirements may also differ depending on the institution involved and the purpose for which a document is required.
A practical starting point is to establish what needs to be verified, which authority or institution is responsible, and what documentation is required. Where apostilles or other forms of legalisation are involved, the requirements of the receiving authority should be confirmed before proceeding.
In-country enquiries can help establish facts, verify records and clarify the status of unresolved matters. The findings can then inform decisions on the appropriate next steps.
GI Advisory undertakes in-country verification and enquiries in South Africa as part of its Integrity Due Diligence work. This includes assisting clients abroad who need to establish facts, verify records or clarify documentary requirements. The work also extends to organisations assessing South African records presented by applicants or other parties.
Verification of a person’s records proceeds with that person’s written consent.
